About Me

In a world of data-driven results, KPIs, and endless educational buzzwords, we often lose sight of the most important element in our schools: the humans.

I’m Liz, and I believe that true educational leadership isn’t found in a board report or a name-drop—it’s found in the hallway. I’ve spent a humble 3 years in administration, realizing that when we lead with our hearts, the “data” naturally follows. I created this blog for aspiring and new administrators who are tired of the performance and ready to lead with their authentic selves. If you’re looking for a space that prioritizes empathy, meaningful connection, and the soul of education over the noise of buzzwords, I’m so glad you’re here.

Failed the Interview, Found My Voice

I remember standing in front of a room full of teachers, parents, school board members, and administrators as I interviewed for a high school assistant principal position. Heart racing, hands shaking, I was presenting a new initiative, and I was ‘performing’ just how I envisioned. I hit every buzzword—data-informed intervention, pedagogical alignment, stakeholder buy-in.

But halfway through, I had a strange, sinking realization: I didn’t recognize the person speaking. I was saying all the ‘right’ things, but I felt completely disconnected from why I went into education in the first place. I was leading with a script, not a soul. I realized then that if I had to check my heart at the door just to get a seat at the table, I was sitting at the wrong table. That interview changed everything for me. It was the last time I prioritized sounding ‘professional’ over being personal, and it’s why this blog exists—to empower you to lead as a human being, not a buzzword generator.

A Few Human Details

Where to start? I will begin with me. In 2022, I accepted a position as an assistant principal at an elementary school.

My roots have always been in special education—teaching, leading, and coaching. I have always said my dream job is to be an assistant principal at an elementary school. It combines what I love about special education—working directly with students—with what I love about administration—leading for all kids.

I am incredibly supported by my husband and our two kids. The four of us live a quiet life with our dog, Cheddar. My favorite Friday night is filled with pizza and a new episode of Dateline.
